hi guys, ive had a corn snake for about 6 months now and i love it, i volunteer in my local rep shop and ive got fond of the royal pythons, i heard all sorts of bad things about how much of a pain they are and i just wanted to know how much of a pain are they?

Hi, Stotty. Yes, it's like everyone says - this is just the way royals are. It bothered me at first, but after reading all the threads I sort of got used to the idea that they can be unpredictable. I know I only got Shahi in July but I wouldn't be without him. I confess I thought he wouldn't have the personality of the corns but he does! I know I've got the fasting and breeding season disruptions to come but I still don't regret getting him.
And if you're volunteering in a rep shop and working with royals you're going to be learning so much ... envy you! Don't know how you can see them all the time and not come home with one - bet you do! |

It's starting to get really cold in a lot of places. You are probably going to notice some "my adult royals quit eating" threads. This happens quite often in the winter time when the adult royals go into breeding season.
Not much to worry about. We just continue to monitor weight, general health, husbandry, and offer food once a week and wait it out. |

Frustrating it is, but it is normal for some to do that so you just have to accept and enjoy them |

As above, its what they do naturally, they aren't mammals and it does them no harm. So I don't see it as a pain. |

I don't really consider that a pain. It's just a "the way they are" kinda thing. Royals are good "training" snakes. It trains you on proper care of snakes. When they get off their feed you learn to "read" what it may mean - set-up not right, season change, or they're just not interested in food. Makes for a better keeper. |
