Hey guys got my first royal python today the pet shop wasn't very helpful at all thanks to this site my Monty's life has probably been saved...i have a question however the occasional scale on the snake is "sharp" is the only way i can describe it my thought was it has had a shedding problem and the Cloacal (i think) has what appears to be thorns on either side coming out is this normal? :S

boomslang Posted - 24/07/2012 : 16:13:28
What you want is stuff you can't kill haha,Also if you do buy a strip it will help for viewing mr snake and your plants.Anyway good hard plants are....

Codiaeum species - croton.
Epipremnum aureum - Pothos.
Maranta leuconeura Kerchoveana - Prayer Plant
Schefflera arboricola Variegata - Umbrella Plant
Philodendron scandens - Sweetheart Plant
Anthurium Baby Boomer - Oilcloth flower

thats about it m8,without good lighting etc most other stuff will die.Used latin names to as alot of garden centres only use that.plus all these are fine with high humidity.
Spud Posted - 24/07/2012 : 02:51:12

boomslang Posted - 23/07/2012 : 03:40:30
You need to water them, and like i said lighting helps.Alot of things from where the snake lives, you can forget about to. :P
Spud Posted - 23/07/2012 : 03:34:27
ahh :) ill do that then i said "well cant i just get plants that live in the same conditions as the snake" she just repeated the 2-3 week thing i was like ok..so plants will die where they are in the right conditions :P
boomslang Posted - 23/07/2012 : 03:31:29
I have six chameleons,some in natural vivs,some with just potted plants,They don't die ;)

Just need to know the right plants to use,But i have all the lights and crap to.If you did use potted plants,it would help to have a uvb strip or plant strip. There are plants you can get that would be fine.
Spud Posted - 23/07/2012 : 03:24:21
well i was talking to one of the assistants at the shop and she has some chameleons apparently the plants die within 3 weeks due to the conditions in the viv?
boomslang Posted - 23/07/2012 : 03:22:46
Yeah you can put it in a wet hide etc,and abit here and there. You also don't really need to heat the water.or even bother with the mat.

A spray two times a day.will keep it up.You can over do the humidity with them to.Theres nothing stopping you putting potted plants in there. They will help keep the humidity up.
