Posted - 03/08/2012 : 00:21:13 I have sad childhood memories of praying manti' (im doing an Alan Partridge and presuming thats the plural).
We had a family holiday to Majorca, i must have been about 12, and I found a big green praying mantis living in a bush at the entrance to our apartment. Everyday when we got back I would go and stare at it for a while, I found it fascinating. Anyway, on about the 4th night I went to look for it and it had been swarmed by about a thousand ants, there wasnt much left of the poor guy. I was absolutely devastated!!!
It must have been about 1000 times the size of each ant, but just got totally out numbered. Natures crazy!!!! |

Posted - 02/08/2012 : 19:05:49 Microcrickets dont stand a chance around the super assassin, a true predator too, actually hunts rather than waits for its meal.
Love its huge big red eyes.

Seemed to do OK tonight catching his food, quite the tiny assassin, the Ivy is in to give him stuff he can grip onto rather than the smooth roof when he moults, and also a bit of cover to hide in when I stare at him for too long. I will be keeping an eye on him/her though, make sure its not too much.

Posted - 01/08/2012 : 22:45:32 how big do they get ? |
reptiledanny |
Posted - 01/08/2012 : 22:31:16 i would say yes is too big as he'll not be able to catch food very well in that i would also remove the ivy and just have a branch as the ivy hanging near the top will be in the way when he moults and could cause him to fall and die. nice though, got a couple of mantids on the way myself |
