Posted - 26/05/2013 : 11:14:21 Love emperor scorpions!
We used to have a male and female. One morning we came down to find him dead with a hole in his back.
Another morning we found loads of little white babies clinging to her back! Lol
Seeing her care for them was fascinating to watch.
When they were old enough we sold them on. My parents still have one of its shed skins |

Posted - 26/05/2013 : 09:24:20 nice pickup's yes they are addictive an the cost doesn't help. as lotabob says stick it in a cricket tub then gently pin it to the bottom with a cloth/tissue that way you can flip the tub over an get a clear pic without them moving.
male's have bigger an longer pectine's compared to the female's, some people sex them by the shape of the operculum(round bit between the pectines) but on the advice of a friend who study's scorpion's this is not as accurate at least for forest type scorpion's |

Posted - 25/05/2013 : 19:46:57 Sexing a scorpion is easy once you know what to look for. Stick it in a cricket tub and look at it from underneath. They have weird comb like structures and where they join is the give away, if the combs of the comb go almost to the middle it's a boy, if there is a gap it's a girl, the bit where the combs attach too give a clue, the boy bit is split and the girl one is not. If you're not sure then post a picture and ill have a bash at it for you. |
