Posted - 30/06/2011 : 21:22:28 Yeah they do say to expect fasts upto 8 months . It was amazing to watch her eating (and a bit scary, I could see her fangs), the crickets stripped that bit of spud to the peel, they are working there magic on the peel no though, I tell you why compost, just have a massive bucket of crickets. |

Posted - 30/06/2011 : 21:02:49 Wow - good old Trixie - they're a bit less complicated than royals then. They do do one royal thing though, don't they? They can be expected to do a fast for part of the year? At least I understood this from my (brief) reading up on them.
Aww, good to see the little crix enjoying their spuds! |

Posted - 30/06/2011 : 20:25:42 Well one cricket just went to cricket heaven, I popped one in for Trixie, she stalked it and pounced.
I actually really like the crickets, I was watching them eat and missed Trixies strike. lol. They now all have little white bellies full of potato, fish food is a good idea, I've loads of that, the reptile shop guy also said he give his rice crispies, so thats on my list. I would never mistreat an aninmal even if its just a feeder cricket, they will be well looked after.

Posted - 30/06/2011 : 20:01:27 Aww bless ...I remember my first pet crickets - they do reward a little tlc. Yes, they love potato, a bit of tomato, lettuce, cabbage, and fishfood ... You can buy 'bug-grub' which is brilliant for gut loading live food. I did a terrible thing though and gave them water. A cricket hasn't the sense to get out of a water bowl. Even a bowl with paper tissue in wasn't safe. Also they're like locusts, any humidity and they die. I lost loads of baby crickets that way. I now give my pet locusts enough fresh veg/leaves to provide water needs, and no water bowl. (You'll be getting like me, hooked on creepy-crawlies lol.) |

Posted - 30/06/2011 : 19:52:26 I just threw the crickets a tiny piece of potato and they went mental for it. Poor things, I've decided to sort them out a faunarium and give them a nice place to live before they die. |
