My boa is finally taking a small rats/large weaners every week! Or at least he has the last 3 weeks! Strange thing is though how can he be taking rats that are around 100g and only putting on 20g a week? He's definately not pooed anywhere and I'm still waiting for him to go so I can take a sample to the vets!

Yeah mate. That is all you can do really. As you can read after 6 months of weekly feeds mine still hasn't exactly put a lot of weight on lol.
phlegmatical Posted - 14/07/2013 : 06:21:25
Thx for your thoughts on the weight. I'll just carry on as I am for now then and stop worrying about it! Bertha is an awesome name for a boa lol!

That's good to hear she has some kind of cause instead of just stuck in a tank etc.

And sweet. Be good to see it

Yeah in time hell get there. And she sounds a stunner. Poor girl being put in a rescue. Yeah get some pictures. Get a thread going of what kind of things are in local rescue centres. Be a good read up
chrisc Posted - 14/07/2013 : 00:15:03

Foremand Posted - 14/07/2013 : 00:11:00
That's a nice weight. We're as mine is around 7 foot too but at only around 3 kg.
chrisc Posted - 14/07/2013 : 00:09:38
he is around 7ft an was 6.2kg last time i weighed him will get him on the scale's tomorrow an see if he's gained much
Foremand Posted - 13/07/2013 : 23:43:37
Yeah exactly. That's my plan. I see William looking good too. What length and weight is he by the way? Roughly
chrisc Posted - 13/07/2013 : 23:42:03
yea nice steady supply of grub once he's a good size an xl rat every 2 week's will be plenty that's what william get't but i do give him a much bigger meal now an then just for a change but leave him 3 week's after that
Foremand Posted - 13/07/2013 : 23:31:42
Taken a lot of rats lol the best thing is every 7 days there's no delay for food. Bad for my pocket lol but will increase his dinner soon n increase duration.
chrisc Posted - 13/07/2013 : 23:30:30
yea he was quite skinny when you got him but looking really good now
Foremand Posted - 13/07/2013 : 22:43:05
Yeah I've found with my boa that since December and being fed a large rat every week he has taken a while to build him back up from an underweight snake.
chrisc Posted - 13/07/2013 : 22:35:19
some reptile shop's sell cypress mulch or you can find it cheap on ebay.

yep definitely need to seal the viv, boa's don't grow that fast plus with the not eating for a while it could take a few feed's to build up any lost muscle/fat so may start gaining more after a while
Foremand Posted - 13/07/2013 : 22:03:38
Yeah I'd fully seal the tank before hand. I did. My boa knocked his water bowl over and flooded the carpet before. Had a bit of a leak in the viv. And yeah that will be ok to be honest. I don't really check mine for weight asking as he's happy and lively is good enough for me.
phlegmatical Posted - 13/07/2013 : 22:00:39
Wow I'm thinking it was a big mistake rushing and not fully sealing viv lol. Do u think only gaining 20g per week but eating 100g rats is anything or nothing?
Foremand Posted - 13/07/2013 : 21:16:47
Oh ok. I might have to have a look into something else. Would that be an order item or could you get it quite easily? Can you get it in big bulks
chrisc Posted - 13/07/2013 : 21:02:32
william is currently on a mix of orchid bark an aspen as i find the bark is just not absorbent enough for the bucket load he let's go.

was speaking to richard v a couple of week's ago an he uses cypress mulch with his burm's so im going to get some an use a mix if that an orchid bark with the big snake's
Foremand Posted - 13/07/2013 : 20:51:09
Yeah that was part of it lol the rest was in the bark lmao. Will have to go but another bag soon.
