I, know, I dissapeared again. My laptop desided to die and needed it's brain fixing (memory upgrade amongst other things).
So I'm now down to my last Hisser. Originally I had six, two males and four females. They never bred.
One male died. I didn't think too much of it since I didn't know how old they were when I got them. But then my other male got ill and died. Then two girls died shortly afterwards only days apart. My last girl's friend was put to sleep the other month due to becoming ill.
I was having real trouble getting them to eat. They just weren't interested in anything I gave them. Some of the things I tryed:
Raw foods
Broccoli, califlower, cauliflower leaves, carrot, various mushrooms, cabbage, kale, baby sweetcorn, peas, orange (which they're supposed to go mad for), grapes (skined), mango, Tomato, etc etc etc.
Cooked/steamed foods
Brocoli, cauliflower, cauliflower leaves, carrot, peas, sweetcorn, baby sweetcorn, mushrooms, various beans, rice, pasta, chickpeas, spinach, cabbage, kale, and so on.
I've even tryed giving them lighter green veg such as herbs, salad leaves and dandilions out of the garden. Even lettuce and cucumber that I've read they're not suposed to have at all. Anything to get them to eat.
My last girl has even gone off her dog biscuits.
I tried changing their substrate from orchid bark to plantation soil. I started putting brambles in their tank so they feel more secure. Now I have to say they did seem to prefer things that way and were coming out a lot more at night... but not eating. Not even eating the blackberries off the brambles in the autumn.
I'm now worried that this isn't due to simply old age and that something else is going on. I check for mites and have never had a problem with an outbreak or anything like that. The hissers were seemingly healthy till they weren't. No outwards warning signs.
Do we think this could just be old age, or do we think there's a problem here?
I want to get my poor lonly girl some new friends but I feel I shouldn't till I know why her other friends died all in the space of a year.

Well, I'm glad to learn it's not just me with this problem. But it still doesn't explain why they're like this : /
And why only me and Lotabob?
It upsets me to know that they'd rather starve themselves to death than eat anything I give them. I've tried bread, and toast and even a peice of oat biscuit. I think I must of tryed pretty much everything now. Even tryed dry mix for Rabbits, thinking they might like the veriety in it... nope.
...I've even sat there and shelled bloody peas for them to no avail.
I don't even have a Tarantula to feed my last one to. 'Cause at this rate it might be the kinder thing to do : (

I've tried all that, they just aren't interested in anything. I even tried roach food and also Gecko Food which the other roaches I have go mental for. I'll not be getting any more. My dubias are dustbins and will eat almost anything. |

Hi I feed mine dry dog biscuits, fish flakes , brown bread and a bit of orange now and then, I also give them bug gel water, all doing well. |

I can't get mine to eat anything but a nibble at banana. I'm down to 3 now and I'm seriously considering just feeding them to the Tarantula. |

To clarify then, I'm talking about Giant Madigascan (sp?) Hissing Cockroaches. |

Christ BlueDragon a little more clarification next time lol! I read this on my phone thinking "Jesus no wonder his snakes are dying if he's feeding them veg'!"
Wish I could help but I'm not allowed to keep roaches :( |
