Posted - 23/09/2013 : 10:48:50 I got my first Rankins dragon yesterday. I have him on a news paper substrate and was just wondering how/when to offer food? It's my first bug eating reptile and I don't want to just put a load in his viv and they just run under the paper! I've tried him in a seperate tub with a few but wasn't interested! Should I just leave him a few days? |

Posted - 27/09/2013 : 20:32:41 I'll try n get a pic tmrw, They are in the tile section of DIY shops but are more like pebbles on a mesh mat.
Try this link for a pic - http://st.houzz.com/simgs/253186fc0cf5869b_4-1000/eclectic-bath-mats.jpg
They should be ok for babies & adults as they are stuck to the mat, just use the baby friendly sand you have to brush into the gaps. When its dirty & time to change I just hoover out the sand and wash over the pebbles. |

Posted - 27/09/2013 : 19:29:28 I don't know what stones u mean lol, do u have a pic? Are they suitable for babies? He's still eating dead crickets. At least he's eating now though |

Posted - 27/09/2013 : 18:08:01 I don't really know anything about Rankins but for my Beardie I use those stones stuck to mesh you get from DIY stores as substrate. I just brush a bit of sand into the gaps. It looks good & easy to clean. You could try putting the crickets into a bowl so they don't run all over the place, he might take them then. |

Posted - 27/09/2013 : 05:25:38 you will soon get used to them i hated touching them at first but they don't bother me at all now, still not a huge fan of the dubia roaches though
i get cricket's escape now an then when feeding the invert's, my mum found an adult cricket in the kitchen cupboard a while back it must have found food as it was small when it escaped |

Posted - 26/09/2013 : 23:04:25 Yea that's what I been doing. At least I know there will be no escapes! Can't stand the things! Is rather touch that freaky whip scorpion than a cricket! |

Posted - 26/09/2013 : 17:31:15 if he's not taking live straight away try squishing them a bit so they still wriggle but don't run away.
shouldn't need any heating during the night unless your house get's lover than about 15c |

Posted - 26/09/2013 : 08:25:03 He's just started eating! There was a drowned cricket in the water so put it infront of him and he took it. I then killed about 10 and hand fed them and he took them all. Haven't got time to do that every morning before work though lol. I did give him a bit more of a night time temp drop last night though. That might of helped |

Posted - 25/09/2013 : 19:56:57 i would still have the newspaper in there or you can use a bit of lino cut to the size of the viv |

Posted - 24/09/2013 : 07:02:42 Cheers Chris. Is it worth having newspaper? Thinking about just having no substrate till he's eating properly cuz the crickets just run under it and hide! |

Posted - 24/09/2013 : 05:54:30 i would feed them the similar to beardie's give them as much live food as they will take in 3-4 minute's twice a day with one feed each day being dusted with calcium then on one or 2 feed's each week dust the food with calcuim+d3 powder/calcuim powder with vitamin's. give them fresh veg every day they may not eat much of it but should eat more once they get older.
here is a great list of what veg beardie's can eat an tell's you how often it can be fed, i would guess this would be the same food for rankin's dragon's http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html |
