Posted - 27/01/2010 : 22:30:41 we used to have rat, he was big, but lovely.
1. a large wire cage is best, with horizontal bars (my rat used to love climbing up the sides). 2. Larger is always better in regards to cage size 3. bedding - avoid CEDAR and PINE wood beddings 4. pet shaving sold in every pet shop (for the bedding for my rat i put pelleted bedding on the base and covered it with soft shavings, that made it quite absorbant) 5. nesting area - shredded paper, tissues etc (not newspaper with ink on) 6. rats love to climb - so ladders, hampers, rope, wood toys etc
feeding
1. special rat food can be brought in every pet shop 2. vary the diet include - fruit, vegetables, pasta, bread, low cooked meat and mealworms (but dont feed too excessively, they will get fat :D)
clean out fortnightly with a pet discinfectant
i think that covers it, or as much as i can remember when i had my rat
