hi there i have a lot of experise on royals , but in jan 2010 i got my daughter a baby corn as a late birthday gift , she has been grate with "kingworm" he was the size of a pen and just as slim. he was fed every 5/6 days on pinkys from 1 too 2 then 3 till after 3 sheds then we moved up a size and gave him i fuzz twice a week , he has always been so friendly and calm . 2 months ago he was getting too big for his rub so we moved him into a 2and a half ft viv but we put his rub in there with no lid for 2 weeks so he wouldnt stress he didnt and we moved his feeds to every 10 days after the 2 weeks we took his rub out and he was find ,how ever every time we open the viv doors he rattles and dives at any thing u put in the viv food or water or ur hand , i was brave and thought no way mate your only a baby he is about 2ft now and the width of a mans thumb , i picked him up he struck and bite and coiled on my hand i nearly had heart failure . we have put his food back to every 6 days and he is on 2 fuzzies he is happy in his viv well i think he is as he has lots to play with etc well hide etc hides , vines , stones bark lots but he likes too sit on thetop of a stone statue in cooler end and then attck his whole tail goes !! wat should i try too get my baby back to been happy agian we have not handled for 5 weeks now except too clean out. too see if it helps as he was handled most days but thats not made any difference, plz help

well i put his rub in the viv with lids open for a week , then took them off, now he sits on top and is fine when you get him out now after a few strikes but he is gettin better guess even though size wise he is ready he is not as secure as i would like . He has only acually biten once but i didnt want him to stress out and think handling was a bad thing .

Ok so this may be a bit out there but, could you just go with the bite and let him realise he aint going to win? I knew a rattler corn once but he came around in time.

Aww, sorry to hear that!

As far as I know all my corns are females (well, 4 have been probed, I'm not sure about Cy but tend to call her, 'her') and whether girls are milder-mannered or not, I don't know. I've seen the tail-rattling thing a couple of times from Buffy at the onset of shed, which is obviously not the case with Kingworm.

Yes, it could be viv-defensiveness, which most people will tell you to overcome by going on handling - not easy when the little git's determined to savage you.

It could certainly be feeding response - the only corn bites (tickles) I've had have been when Buffy (trust her!) mistook my inexperienced fingers for a nice fat pinkie.

As Kelfezond has said, corns can be ... well ... feisty. I remember another forum where a breeder had a hatchling she named 'Devil Worm' - and it was!

There's another possibility - I know next to nothing about corn breeding, but isn't December a month when matings can take place? Could Kingworm have the girls on his mind if so and be playing macho?

I tell you a good guy on TCS to ask - Mike Richards - he breeds - and of course so do a lot of them but his is the first name that springs to mind.

Good luck and I hope Kingworm calms down soon.

yeah tried that have posted on the sister site bloody hell i just click when he was in rub he was on aspen and i took him out to feed now he in viv on lining paper i do it in there omg that may well be it will be feeding him in a few hours will try a few feeds like that !!
reptiledanny Posted - 20/11/2010 : 19:52:56
do u feed in the viv, i found that after feeding in the viv for a couple of weeks my corn got agresive so fed outside and he calmed down again
also sometimes it can the size of you and the size of him, if you all of a sudden aproach him he will get scared, so nal down away from the viv and slowly aproach and see how that works
pop over to tcsf and ask there lol, they might have a few more ideas

Sorry to hear the bad news :(

I have experience of little corn snakes biting me, I used to have to change about 50 water bowls in a reptile store a few years ago and the corns there were all feral little lovelies. I hope he settles down soon
