My mam has a corn snake, a lovley bright orange one. She's roughly (I think) a year and a half old, but isn't nearly as big as she should be. She needs to grow, but has never been the best feeder. For weeks she will refuse food and then won't eat much after that. At the minuet she's on mouse fuzzies, but recently she's lost interest in them. She'll eat one little one and then no more. And even for her this is unusual. My mam would like to know if she should try her on a bigger size mouse or if this will put her off all together? I said yes she should try it 'cause it'll smell different and maybe she's after something bigger and more nutritious and she can tell the fuzzies aren't best for her anymore...
I had a Corn before Tig, but she was an exelent feeder, even fed during her shedding period. So I haven't got a solid answer for her really. But I know a lot of peoples on here have Corns, so I'm hoping you might be more help than me : )

No way would my mam be willing to cut off the head of a mouse, she goes all squeemish if a foot drops off in the feezer! She's funny like that. But maybe I would have to do it for her instead, 'cause it doesn't bother me. Maybe I'm the one that's funny? X )

Hi, she sounds just like my Cy (with one eye) who's about a year old (I think) and is a bit of a sporadic feeder. Cy's also a Miami morph, and these morphs can stay on the small side.
I know what you mean about the larger prey thing. Spooky, my ghost corn, was very fussy a year ago. Then one day she ate 2 pinkies and then (long story) accidentally had access to a small mouse warming for another corn ... And she grabbed and ate it! Very bad management on my part but it made me realise that the pinkies weren't sufficiently attractive. I don't know how she got it all down, but thank heavens there was no regurge. Shouldn't really have happened, but it did give me an idea when it came to feeding Cy.
Sometimes Cy will take a fuzzy with the nape of the neck snipped open and defrosted with bigger mice. If she goes 3 weeks or so without feeding, I defrost a hopper or small small mouse - and cut the head off. Then I cut the head in two. Eww! Often she'll take this. Even half a head is nourishment ... No way is she big enough to eat anything above fuzzy size, or at least I wouldn't dare chance it.
She's a tough lively little thing and she sheds well (not often, mind, but when she does it's perfect. With its one eyecap.)
I've heard of other corns who are poor feeders and remain small, but still seem to enjoy life. All that can be done, I think, is to keep on offering food every week and let them decide.
Also apring's coming and their appetite often picks up then - Spooky's certainly did last spring - no problems with her now.
