jeff went blue a few days ago an i noticed that one side of his jaw was swollen so had a look in his mouth and hes has a little bit of mouth rot from what looked like a bit of aspen stuck in the top jaw/lip.
genlty removed this an the white lumps with a damp cotton bud
been washing his mouth daily with slightly diluted listerine, it works a treat.
he had a couple of red sore spots about 3mm across and its now almost gone few more days of rinsing an it should be all gone
plus some shiney pics to follow as hes just cleared up

have seen most of them take in the odd bit of aspen so yes he was just unlucky it got stuck

He really has been unlucky - when you think of the amount of snakes who feed on aspen, and in the wild, and never take harm from the odd bit of ingested debris.

Get well soon Jeff.

thanks bats, hes been very well behaved no biting or striking, he was the same when he had the RI a few months ago.
all of mine apart from derek feed in the viv.
i put the rat down on a tea towel never been worried or had a problem just noticed the swollen jaw an had a look, must have dragged ratty onto the aspen an by chance got a bit stuck

Oh wow - poor Jeff! That is really unlucky!

Makes me wonder if I was right to worry about feeding near aspen before - there are so many conflicting opinions.

Glad to hear he's on the mend - he was a good lad to let you do all that and hope he continues to improve.
