Posted - 02/06/2012 : 15:13:16 A member on TCS just lost his Royal to IBD its so sad I really feel for the guy, he has Boas too, just hoping they are OK.
The problem with IBD is it is fatal in all Boids eventually but will quickly kill a Royal and its an awful awful death. It requires a full quarantine, I didn't do it myself I only found out about the full risk of IBD after I bought my Boa, I got lucky though everything was fine but the unlucky ones have to have their entire collection PTS.
My Housie is still in quarantine, in a different room to my other snakes, still a while to go yet too, its worth it even if at the end of it it turns out to have been pointless (which is great news pointless is what we want during quarantine).
Other than that bit just be prepared for a very strong, possibly strong willed snake, if its a baby, expect a few nips or at least a few near misses but they are intelligent, fun and great feeders normally and you will love every second of them. |

Posted - 02/06/2012 : 13:35:17 Beautiful! Congrats in advance - and yes, I support quarantining. I quarantined Sulah for 3 months as she'd been in a room with boas and I didn't know her seller or how long he'd had her; the time soon passed and it was worth it for the peace of mind. |

Posted - 02/06/2012 : 10:17:42 speak to the breeder about how/where he keeps all his snakes and about IBD an what he does regarding quarantine heres a thead about IBD an boas http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8895
its best to quarantine in a separate room to be safe. my boa is being quarantined in the same room as my other snakes as i cant put him in another room but he came from a friend whos had him for 2 years in a house full of reptiles an was in a viv stack with afrocks, burms an other boas so im not to worried but am still being very carefull to handle him last an everytime i handle or use anything with him to clean said equipment an disinfect my hands/ arms an anything he touches |

Posted - 02/06/2012 : 09:46:14 Ah yes that's the 1 :( Will this need to be done, even though the snake breeder I buy from quarantines all his animals, And breed these boa's himself, he keeps them all in the same room, and pritty sure all my snakes have been in the same room as the boas at some stage. Im just curious, i like to know the reasons behind everything :D
Thanks, Matt |

Posted - 02/06/2012 : 01:18:46 What is this for, is it the disease which they can carry which can be fatal? Cant remember the name for it off the top of my head, and too tired to look for it :( Or is it another reason
thanks matt. |
