Posted - 04/06/2012 : 21:27:40 When feeding geckos locusts or any insect really do they have to have the calcium powder on or any other treatment before the geckos can eat them? Because my two are still babies my friend was stil trying to get them eating live food before coming to me but unforeseen circumstances meant they had to come early. So I'm gonna try live feeding so need to know what the locusts need doing to them :) |

Posted - 05/06/2012 : 12:21:39 dont worry too much, 2 months is very young still, my smaller one isnt interested in live food, but the bigger one takes crickets by hand now. Aslong as you get them feeding on repashy as a main food source you cant go wrong
bob, where do you get your dubais from? do you keep a colony? |

Posted - 05/06/2012 : 10:30:15 Well the locust is still there this morning :( I'll check the smaller one later cause I couldn't see it this morning. |

Posted - 05/06/2012 : 01:22:12 Once a week is fine for treats, I do a cycle of repashy in for 2 days, 1 day without amd a treat on Sunday when I feed the spiders. They are good little lizards and only eat what they need. |

Posted - 05/06/2012 : 00:28:13 Thanks bob I put a locust in and he seemed like he was chasing after it! Was kinda funny lol
They're still really small only 2 months old.
At the minute they're eating rapashy peach, how often should I offer them the various treats? Like the mashed up fruit and wax worms?

Posted - 05/06/2012 : 00:19:28 As a little treat you can give them wax worms though the ones you get in shops will be too big for the really small cresties. The easiest way to judge size is if it fits between their eyes it will fit down their throat. My crestie took to live but took ages to take to gecko diet. I have abandoned crickets, they are a nuisance, the stink, they escape and they stink. Harley LOVES dubia roaches, they aren't too fast either so less chance of them getting away (though its rare anything gets by these bug eyed bug terminators). He seems to appreciate been hand fed them too the lazy beast he is, though he is a bit too enthusiastic these days and forgets he is now big enough to actually bite by finger, it doesn't hurt but they do have little teeth which I wasn't aware of until he took to biting me, lol.
The best bet is repashy takes care of his nutritional needs, the bugs are a treat with a calcium hit. Though dont feed so many bugs that they are full and leave their repashy. |

Posted - 04/06/2012 : 22:56:30 yeah they need to be dusted with calcium powder, i feed the crickets repashy too so theyre gutloaded with it. Some cresties just dont take to live food, its nothing to worry about if they dont, they can live perfectly well on just repashy |

Posted - 04/06/2012 : 21:51:31 Good luck ;)
Remember though if the don't take live (yet)
They could live on repashy
But I'm sure they will love locust |
