Posted - 08/11/2012 : 22:32:03 Just bought a fridge on ebay, which I'm picking up on Monday. It's gonna be big enough for me to have three 9l RUBs (which is more than big enough for me atm).
Well here's the fridge in question http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Coolzone-Wine-fridge-turning-on-but-not-cooling-Thermostat-probs-/140879412707?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&nma=true&si=cTdVBCoYpdSvuMv106zp%2FWo9p2o%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc |

Posted - 12/11/2012 : 22:45:53 I've managed to reduce the weight by 1/4 by removing all the wiring systems. Unfortunately, I couldn't remove the cooling unit as it would involve trying to crack open the internal lining, which would make the unit useless (the lining is one whole piece). After I have done what I could to reduce the weight, I then went about disinfecting the unit. Glad I did cos it was filthy! I used the same stuff I would normally use for my vivs as I know it's snake friendly.
After ripping out the wiring, I found where all the probes, lights and controllers were, and as if by luck they are nearly in the perfect position for the stat probe and mat wiring so I'll use these before sealing them off with silicone.

Posted - 12/11/2012 : 13:48:44 Think this will turn into a blog more than anything else, so I hope I can deliver 2 things from this. The first being how I converted it which people can use to get their own conversion up and running, and the second a few laughs cos no doubt I'll screw up at some point lol.
My fridge has two compartments (depth is an estimate as a wine bottle is approx 12" in height) - top (8" x 16" x 14") - main (18" x 16" x 14") so I'm gonna use 3 pc fans, 2 in the main and 1 in the top compartment. I'll be using these fans: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Molex-Connector-Heavy-Duty-Hard-Disk-Drive-Twin-Dual-Duo-2x-Fan-Cooling-Panel-PC-/180776596819?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D3407277267028843676%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D2%26sd%3D150868502361%26
Catch you all soon for an update
In the main compartment, the fans will be placed on the roof facing down (one on each side). The top, I'll probably put it on the side as there would be 2" gap between the rub and the roof of the compartment.
I wonder if it is possible to have no fan in the top....I'll probably give it a trial run without a fan. |
