As money is tight I made the decision to construct my own viv for when my normal is ready to move out of her breeding box. I made a plan of the wood I would need & got the guy in the local DIY store to cut out the bits for me. I've only added two vents so far @ 9cm2, not sure if it will be enough but will test it when finished. I intend to add a 100W ceramic heat bulb & pulse stat but that will have to wait till next pay day. So far i've spent about £90 on wood, paint, varnish & vents & sealant. I just have the runners & glass to buy. Glass or perspex? whats best?

I'll add more pics as I go.

Thanks chris, I must admit I didn't think of that. What thickness sheet did you use?

Looks fantastic

At long last its finished....well nearly..Lol
I've got a 150W ceramic running in it atm but it only gets to 30°C so ordered a 250W today so it should heat fine & be less work for the pulse stat. I'm thinking of adding a blue night bulb too. Next part of the project is to add a two RUB stack to the top with poly barrier between the viv & the stack to stop the heat transfer. That will be ready for when my Fire x Pinstripe arrives in a few weeks :)

ok nvm then hehe :)
rustyp1974 Posted - 28/03/2013 : 18:19:34
Problem is i cant get a vivexotics one here, & the only places i found in france want over €200 before delivery, otherwise that was my first choice.
boomslang Posted - 28/03/2013 : 14:56:49
Hmm i think it looks great :) If it's £90 already, and you still have to buy the glass etc.Is it really any cheaper then say a 3 foot VivExotic viv?

Nice looking viv, however and i don`t want to sound at all negative but it looks like you`ve made it from MDF and when your snake goes to the toilet or spills its water bowl your going to find it impossible to clean as the moisture will just corrode the base.

Thanks guys, 3ft runners on 15mm MDF, I calculated 6mm for the glass. Does that sound right? or is 4mm better as Evo says? Dont want to order it and it not fit..LOL
Evolution Morphs Posted - 25/03/2013 : 21:08:11
4mm safety glass with 4mm runners

That's going to depend on the size of the runners you're fitting

look's very good, glass is best as it's possible for them to bend perspex an escape
Foremand Posted - 24/03/2013 : 18:32:26
Awesome job there. :) I prefer glass. But that's my choice.
Fezza Posted - 24/03/2013 : 17:33:25
Looks like you've done a good job. Well done

I'm not sure which is best in the glass vs Perspex argument. I'm guessing cost is going to be a limiting factor and could be why most manufactured vivs come with glass?
