Hi just thought I would share a quick Build I did for my new Viv. I made a simple 3 option switched LED light (White--Off--Red) with individual dimmers

By Day----

By Night----

If people are intrested I can get a list of the parts and step by step? cost is approx 30 quid

Looks really cool, seems to be a solid implementation you built for yourself there. How much did you spend on it?

It would be quite easy to auto switch using a cheap 12v timer box and a spdt relay. The timer outputs to the relay coils, when the timer is on, then the relay powers one circuit, when the timer powers off, the relay reverts to its off position and makes the circuit for the other lights.

LEDs are brilliant, i got one of the lucky reptile mini LED strips and it lights my 3ft viv beautifully!! no extensions required!

Oh forgot to mention it uses 2.4 watts of electric (less than a mobile phone charger)!!
Creates NO heat and LED last for approx 50,000 hours before replacement
I had a marine fish tank and LED is the future because of the heat and cost issues of running Metal halides I'm sure that it wont be long till it has filtered to our Corner of the market, Exoterra or one of the large company's will be telling us that it is the "Must Have" for terrariums.

Its a great setup, would be awesome if it worked automatically and from one dimmer stat.

thinking about it, I think maybe this could be achieved, buy having both lights on timers connected to a double extention, which then connects to the stat.

Just not sure how the stat would handle it, but i cant think of any major problems
matt1981g Posted - 19/08/2011 : 21:59:24
manually at the moment
I'm not sure my soldering iron could take that much action
it would require quite a complex timing system and I cant think of a cheat or hack/mod to something cheap? that would work?
acd1984 Posted - 19/08/2011 : 21:51:29
Does it switch over automatically or is it manual?
