Since buying Sid, I have definitely been bitten by the RP bug and already planning on getting a second (and more).
For the time being I'm designing a new viv for 2 royals. To save space I'm gonna stack them. The design will be cabinet (for storage space), viv, shelving, viv...which should make the whole thing about 76" tall.
Out of curiosity would a 3' x 2' x 2' too big for a royal? And would they use a 'basking' ledge?
Also, I've never used ceramic bulbs as a heat source...is there anything I have to think about (barring a cage) when planning it's design, ie. how much height from the bottom of the viv? etc

Cheers

Andy

I'm running the wires through the holes, then down the back of the background....I don't like seeing wires lol

Looks like there's 2 half holes at each side
Your wire should fit through that fine for the ceramic
May have to drill a hole for the thermostat at the bottom though

The vivarium so far...

How do I put the ceramic heater in? Do I drill a hole and feed the wire in, or take apart the fitting and secure half to the top and the other half to the bottom????

Good luck with the build! Glad it's going well and you're enjoying it! :)

I have my viv's on pulse controlled ceramic heating and light them using colour change LED's so I can have daytime as white or yellow depending on how bright it is outside and then turn to red or switch off completely at night.

As for wanting more Royals, you'll always want more! LOL

Am I going a bit OTT with this build....

I'm thinking of ordering a moonlight LED lighting system and a double light cycle unit for fluorescent bulbs to simulate day and night cycle along with a microclimate B2ME thermostat to also mimic the temperature differences, making a staggering £160 on just lighting and heating!

EDIT: per viv

I'm gonna need to build more vivs... the list has grown (and one is way too expensive, so has been removed lol) to:
Bumblebee
Pastel
Fire

First breed would be the Bumblebee x Fire...giving me a 1/8 chance of these

The cost of moving glass is very high, its heavy and delicate so I would say the cheapest glass you will find will be a local glazier. I shopped around and glazed my huge stack for £55 (9 bits of glass).

Go for 6mm toughened with the sharp edges taken off.

For fixtures and fitting etc I use this fella on Ebay http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/yeleas/?_trksid=p4340.l2559 very cheap and all the stuff i have got has been top quality.
