Yeah the closer to the heat source the less the temps will fluctuate i have mine just outside of hide directly under the bulb

i have dig thermometer hide is not directly under heat lamp is it better to have my thermostat probe next to my hot hide

The thermostat probe is probably adjusting to ambient temp changes with the colder weather it would be better if you placed it directly under heat source along with digital thermometer probe to control temps better

is there a hide directly under the bulb and how are you measuring the temps?
