Hello,
I have a Royal called Nigel. I got him from another owner last year. Have had months of issues getting him to feed however no he seems to have settled into eating regularly.
Please can someone advise me if it's normal that he doesn't attempt to wrap round and/or constrict his feed when he takes it?
He strikes and then just eats with a straight body.
Is this normal?
I do not feed him live food and was wondering if this could be why......

Wondering if this royal is a spider with head wobble? Which is (I suspect) why kelf asked for a pic.

For uploading pics I have photobucket downloaded onto my phone which makes it so much easier. Just upload a pic to photobucket, enter photobucket, copy the image [IMG] code, and paste that code on to a post. Done :-)

My Sas (before his fast!) just sniffs the rat, opens his gob and starts munching.

Yep my Royal is a non constrictor too. Just sneaks up and slowly eats while the rat isn't looking.

EATING = GOOD whatever way they do it. My Boa takes an hour trying to eat his rats sideways and never eats head first, a problem it is not.

Hiya Boomslang - thanks for the reply on this as well. I just always have concerns over this royal. Don't know anything about his background or how he was fed/treated etc.... and as I want him to have a lovely life I just worry!

As far as I know the email sections of this forum do not work.

My 2011 cinnamon girl doesn't strike or constrict. She very politely takes the rat from the tongs and swallows it.

My pin does this,If he don't strike.I just throw the rat into his feeding rub.He just eats it without constricting etc.

Haha no rush, long as he's eating for now I'm sure he'll be okay

Thank you - I haven't got access to these pictures on this computer so will have to do it another time. Will also see if I can ge another one of him later on to upload so you can see.
Sorry I can't do that now. Currently working out how to get pics off my new phone so if I crack that then I can upload some later!
:)

If you head over to the video section there is a sticky thread named Kelfezond's Videos or somesuch - there is a video in the educational section on uploading pictures to the forum.

Any fullbody picture will do :)

Some but not many and all when being held when I first got him or in his viv.
What sort of pictures would you need to see?
Kelfezond Posted - 04/11/2012 : 15:06:52
Do you have any pictures of the snake?
elerimim Posted - 04/11/2012 : 15:05:08
Hiya,
He's just very still when he's handled. He doesn't seem to move much at all. He does seem to have a slight tremble to his head all the time. When I first got him I was told that this was ok though by someone else.
I have a corn snake so this is my first python. He's a rescue snake so I don't know much about him - just never seen this before.
He does miss the rat at times when striking as well but when I lay it down still he never misses it.
Should I be worried about anything?
(thanks for replying btw)

That is very odd, do you give the prey a little shake when he's got ahold of it?

Mind you as long as he's eating that's gotta be a good thing. How is he when you handle him, does his body seem to move okay?
