Posted - 23/12/2012 : 21:14:22 Hi, I was hoping that somebody could help me please. I am looking to buy a thermostat to run a ceramic bulb for a 3-4ft viv. Have been looking at the Microclimate B2Me as it has the built in Night eye type thing whereas the Habistat has to be bought separatly. Is this a good purchase. I have owned Habistat mats before and know that they are good but never owned any Microclimate stuff. Also is it possible to run more than one heater on a single thermostat and if so how is it done? I look forward to your replies. Thanks

Posted - 24/12/2012 : 11:35:16 As chris said no need to drop the temps at night as room will be cooler anyway. I think some people lower temps this time of year to help with breeding but that's it |

Posted - 24/12/2012 : 09:56:13 Thanks for the replies. Lookslike i'll get the standard Habistat without Nighteye. How do you guys set a night drop? just do it manaully? Might look into those Istats or Lucky reptile digital stats. Yeah i'll just buy one stat for each heater then. Thanks for the replies so far. |

No, I found a Luckey Reptile stat on sale at my local rep shop and thought I'd give it a try. All my stuff now runs on those |

Posted - 24/12/2012 : 07:00:42 I got a microclimate mat stat with my royal but binned it after a couple of weeks it used to drop by about five degrees before it warmed back up again. Changed it for a habistat one and that is constantly at the correct temperature |

Posted - 23/12/2012 : 22:07:47 As Chris and Red have said really. I don't really think there is much of a difference between the habi and micro stats tbh.
I've used both and hate both, only due to the stupid dial adjuster they come with. I s**t canned all my dial adjusted stats in favour of digital stats. Much easier ;)
Don't bother with the night eye, it's a pointless addition and needless extra cost
Running multiple ceramics off one stat I wouldn't recommend, the ceramics draw a lot more wattage than a heat mat. Multiple mats can be run off one stat easily using a multi plug. I wouldn't risk it with ceramics |

your best off having 1 ceramic per thermostat as any problem's i the viv without the probe could cause the temps to get seriously hot |

Posted - 23/12/2012 : 21:21:56 I have only ever used a microclimate stat for a heat mat, it was rubbish. Will never touch another microclimate stat again. Thats just my experience though I believe some other people swear by them. You can run more than one heater on a thermostat as long as the combined wattage of the heaters does not exceed the wattage of the thermostat and each viv would have to be identical. I personally would not do this especially with ceramics though. If the bulb where the thermostat probe is blows the other bulbs connected to the stat would heat at full power. Best that each heat source has its own stat. |
