Hello. Just gotten a year old royal python and i was wondering if i need a light source aswell as the head mat ? I have had a corn snake before which didnt need one but im unsure about the python as its a diff species.

Thanks for any answers i just wanna make sure its not to hot or cold for him :)

Royals don't need full spectrum/uv lighting. Same as your corn snake

If you're keeping the royal in a viv then G said, it's more efficient to heat the viv with an overhead heat source. Either a infer red or ceramic heat bulb would be best

would depend on the housing, if its a rub then no doesnt need a light. However if it is a wooden viv then a light is preferred in this instance over a heatmat, with appropriate stat ;).

royals can potentially cause thermal blocking on the mat causing severe burns, corns arent a problem on mats though as they dont reach a weight where thermal blocking can be an issue
