For the first time since we got him at 7 weeks old (now nearly 3), our Royal has begun fasting. In fact, he took his last feed on 28th October. We offer food regularly - he takes a sniff and appears interested initially, but then simply turns away and ignores it (he's a strike feeder). I think before that he'd had one feed in about six weeks.
Although slightly worrying because its the 1st time he's done this, I did weigh him and he appears to have only lost approximately 15 grams maximum in all that time and remains active and appears healthy.
What I was wondering is it worth trying different food to the small rats he normally has? Chicks, or smaller rats perhaps? |

Is switching over to mice something that people do on a regular bases if their royal starts to fast? How long would you let them fast for before offering a mouse when the royal has been a regular rat feeder and never fed on mice before? Or is it just something to do if the royal starts to lose weight? |

I'm gonna try that again with Kane, last time it worked but he then wouldn't switch back to rats for months... |

I've just got my pewter female to feed for the first time since the beginning of November. I've continued to offer her rats as per normal but, tonight I switched her to mice.
This trick worked with her before so it's always worth a try |

Try mice mine only ate mice then got him on to rats for a few weeks with scenting and then didn't touch rats for a month offered hima mouse yesterday and he almost had my hand off! |

You say he has lost 15g, if thats good or bad depends on his starting weight. You could try different ways of serving up his dinner, warming the head a bit more, braining the rat. |
