Hi every1 this is just my second post . Ive read that it is normal for royals to refuse food every so often and i came in late tonight and offered him a feed as usual and he wouldn't touch it I've had him around 6 weeks now and this is the first feed he has refused to touch i have read that its not uncommon for them to refuse food but this is the first time he has ever refused (i know the person i got him off) according to his previous owner. He is around 11/12 months old now and last week i moved him on to larger weaners could this have something to do with him refusing this week ?

Great news he took his feed tonight so maybe the larger weaner just filled him up more :) |

It is likely that the bigger weaner has meant that he isn't hungry again so quickly but it isn't unusual for royals to fast at this time of the year the longest I had one go for is over nine months and then she started feeding again, try not to worry and just check weights every couple of weeks, I would give it a week more before offering again and then try every couple of weeks. |

Yea i mean weaner rats . Last friday was his first larger weaner so could this be why he refused this week cause he is still full from last weeks feed :? Hopefully he goes back to normal feeding next week . Should i put him back onto the smaller weaners or just keep persevering with the larger 1s till he eats every week ?. Also im sure hes not going into shed he shed about 2 weeks ago and his eyes and skin hasnt gone pale :) |

We are in the same vote as you. Our 8 month old male royal has started to fast. Nerve racking I know but unfortunately that's what royals do. We weigh ours every 2 weeks to keep an eye on any weight loss. It could be that your royal is coming up for a shed. |

Hi Derek. Not uncommon at that age and this time of year. Keep an eye on his weight incase this goes on for a few feeds. Otherwise don't worry, Royals like to keep us on our toes. When you say weaners, I take it you mean rat weaners.  |
