Posted - 19/01/2013 : 01:13:12 Their mouths are incredibly loose and taken relatively no effort to open. If you are having to force it open, you are doing it wrong. The hardest part is holding a snake still, specially a Royal so 2 people may be required, one to hold the snake one to deal with the head. I think its important that you do know how to open your snakes mouth.
OK that in my you need a implement to persuade the mouth open. I use a drinking straw or a cotton bud with the fluff cut off (the fluff could get caught in the teeth).

Point to note is the GENTLE pressure to the back of the jaw causes the mouth to not fully close and then you only have to touch the tool you are using into the mouth and the snake will open its mouth, you dont open it, they do. |

Posted - 17/01/2013 : 06:18:40 No need to check unless theres something wrong like they cant close their mouth properly. Sexing probes work well for opening the mouth or a plastic spatula |
