Underneath its hide in the hot spot you can feel a little change in the air and when I dig my finger in the aspen the plastic feel warn! Does this sound ok to anybody ? Also when I first put him in he was all over the viv but last night he was in the cold Spot in his hide and I've came down this morning and he's in the cold Spot still in his hide ? Does this sound normal |

Posted - 08/02/2013 : 16:15:13 That's good then You're never going to get a good ambient temperature inside a faunarium.Or are you saying,The temp drops alittle each time the mat goes off/on? |

Posted - 08/02/2013 : 09:32:10 Hi sorry for not updating I have the hot side on 30 32 now so the temps are fine I'm just trying to build his big viv now cause the faunarium doesn't hold a good ambient temperature but the snake is still happy he spends most day in his warm hide and he's fed so he's seems like a happy snake :) |

Posted - 01/02/2013 : 21:43:47 Used under a plastic rub,it should get way over 27c if you have the stat on max :) is it a rub?or a exo terra faunarium type thing?
Does the whole mat feel warm/hot to the touch?or does some parts of it feel warmer? |

Posted - 01/02/2013 : 17:08:23 I would take the lamp away aswell because if your thermometer is no good you won't know what the temp is and with the mat plus the lamp on it will more than likely be too hot |

Posted - 01/02/2013 : 15:52:50 As what everyone above has said, you can get some decent digital thermometers on ebay, for only a coupe of pound, Then place that on top of the substrate on the hot end, and the same on the cool end. This should give you accurate temps. And royals are not particually active unless I lift up his hide I rarely see my little guy moving around. |

Posted - 01/02/2013 : 15:01:17 32c on the stat is nearly as high as you can set it.So it should be higher on the thermometer then 20c.
Always go by what the thermometer says, rather then the stat.Is it an analogue thermometer by any chance? |

Posted - 01/02/2013 : 12:55:01 Couple of thing
1) don't assume that the stat is accurate, in most cases they aren't. It's vital to get an accurate thermometer so that you know what temps you've got across your setup. 32c at the hot end is about right but if you're seeing 20c that's an issue
2) royal are generally not very active. They're primarily nocturnal so daytime activity should be at a minimum. Your snake should come out mostly at night to "hunt" so don't be surprised if you don't see it much. If your snake is roaming around its usually because its looking for something, either heat/cool, water, cover/palace to hide or a mate. An inactive royal is generally a happy royal |

Posted - 01/02/2013 : 11:51:22 I've turned the habistat matt stat down to 30c and also put a lamp over the starter set and he's came out wondering around his cage and looks happy so I'm going to get a better thermometer today so I can keep an eye on the temps properly as the one you get with the starter set is pathetically crap so I'm feeling happy |
