Hi Guys,

Being pushed to sell one of my boys to get rid of a tank because of the electric bill being so high...

And obvs I dont want to, but may have no choice! :(

Was just wondering would it be a really bad idea to set a timer to have the heaters in my tanks go off every few hours for an hour or so to try save electric??

Its just an idea!

Our electric is £25-£30 a week. Thats for 12 heat mats, 2 ceramics, 4 basking lights, 2 UV lights, tv etc. The usual kitchen appliances and the cooker being used ALOT. Its the boys on their playstation and XBOX until all hours that uses the electric, I am sure of it. Though I have to say we did notice and increase in the use of electricity when we added in the ceramics. I don't know why but they seem to use alot more than the basking bulbs 2 of which are not on stats so run at full power for 16 hours a day.

This is very true, straighteners, hair dryers etc aren't cheap, simple solution to the electricity bill, get rid of the Mrs.

I can't see getting rid of a few vivariums making that much of a dent in the bill and something else is possibly eating the electric or your tariff is totally wrong for you.

£45 quid a month!! Awww there's definately something wrong with my tariff in that case lol.... I went onto comparethemarket.com but it cant find the supplier for my address and wants me to call them!

At least now I know its not just my snakes!! Might not need to sell after all!!

Valid point Foremand!

Chris I have two vivs setup, one 2ft and one 3ft, both setup with ceramic bulbs on PP Stats (150W for 2ft & 200W for 3ft). The only other thing I have in my flat is my 3ft fish tank, its got its light on 12 hours a day, and then of course its heater & pump is on 24/7. We both work full time, and my bills are around £75-£88 a month!? lol
I could probably do with a new/bigger bulb for the 2ft viv though as the stat is on almost constant as of late....

Even if you was able to time the hearing. The power you'll use to get everything back up to temperature every few hours will increase your bill even more.

not really they need the heat on 24/7.

how are all your viv's/RUB's heated?
i have 5 ceramic's and a big heat mat in my invert cupboard running all the time an it doesn't cost that much, once the viv's are up to temp they only use a small amount of power to keep the temp's.

do you have electric heating in your house or anything else that's being used a lot?
