My royal is 30 inch long with 5 inch girth been eating 1 large mouse a week. Mouse doesn't even leave a lump when he's scoffed it which he does quickly.

Today I gave him two mice, he ate both.

Is he being greedy?

Should I continue feeding two?

Should I move him onto rats?

I'm new to all o this so any advice appreciated

Good idea - I've got the tub I got him in, I'll weigh him in that. Ta

If he is a pain to weigh, stick him in a pillowcase. Or I just weigh snake in a tub with a lid and then deduct the wright of the tub. Snakes will eat (if they aren't fasting or nervous or shedding or a royal python generally) whenever they get the chance, really opportinistic as in the wild they don't know when the next meal is coming so if they can fit it in, they'll eat it. It has its good side though, they don't get hungry either which sounds really strange but if they have no food in their belly the digestive system switches off to save energy.

A good guideline is the 10-15% of their body weight rule. Ideally one prey item.
Small snakes upto 500grams feed every 5 days,
501-1kg every 7 days,
1kg-1.5kg every 10 days
and over 1.5kg every fortnight.
(Or if its an adult royal the standard is they fast for half a year, you then feed them up a bit while they are eating, but you'll know what's needed).

I need to weigh him, have struggled cos he coils round my wrist and one of my arms is paralysed so he knows how to be awkward lol so will do that soon as I can.

Are rats much diff to mice? I've read a lot on here about feeding issues. I shall try rat next feed tho

Thank you

If it's not leaving any lumps/bumbs,And he's eating two at a time.I'd switch over to rats.

you want to feed something that is 10-15% of his bodyweight either weekly or fortnightly depending on what he weigh's.
over 1200g feed fortnightly
