Hi,

What wattage ceramic bulbs are you using in a 3x2x2 viv ???

This afternoon I setup my Royals new viv which is 3x2x2 and for the heating I'm using a ceramic bulb. I've had it running for the last 4hrs and it seems to be struggling to get up to the right temp.

It's a 100w bulb with a habistat digital stat / guard in place etc etc. My Royal is still in his rub as I wanted to get things right first.
I did ask four different people that keep reptiles what wattage bulb would suit a 3x2x2 wooden viv and they all said a 100w one would be right, but im only getting 29c on the warm side. I'm looking for around 32/33.

The digital stat has a read out saying the bulb is getting 99% power and 29.6c. I've double checked this with another digital thermometer which says its 1deg hotter !!. The stat probe is on the substrate next to a hide directly under the ceramic. I can feel heat coming from the bulb etc so it seem to be running ok.

The only two things I can think of is that either I need the 150w bulb or im expecting the temps to rise much quicker than they actually do ..... How long should a brand new setup take to get hot enough ? and what wattage are you using ?

Thanks

How long did you leave the set up for? You'll find most people with 4x2x2 like myself run 150w only due to the fact that the 2 foot height is hard to build heat up in.

Your best bet. Running a 150w. Won't struggle as much n will certainly hold the temps in a 3x2x2
