With the warm temperature at the moment my ambient temperature is rising in the vivs and hot spot is going down (my probes are centre of viv) should I aim for keeping the hot spot temp correct or my ambient? All snakes are at cool end today anyway so I'm tempted to just leave it to do it's thing? Appologies if what I'm asking makes no sense!!

My quarantine room (ie: the bedroom) has our newborn royals in on a heatmat, the RUB is in direct sunlight from the window and half the time my thermostat is actually turning off where it's so hot :O

Well, for the last couple of days i've been turning my heating off from 10 in the morning till 5 in the afternoon. Here in Plymouth were are hitting 29-30. My snake room is hitting 27 with the blinds closed.

I'm going to leave my stat probe where it is (centre of vivs) I have thermometers at both ends and ambient is holding fine it's hot spot that's dropping to keep ambient stable. I fed them all last night and had no refusals. Even my fussy boa took for 2nd week in a row! Can't be bothered by it that much!

I've had to turn my thermostats down a couple of degrees. The hot spot was getting too high.

I have all mine directly under the heat source on the substrate but there are a few different methods each having pros and cons

Where would you suggest placing the thermostat probe?

I would personally just leave it, hot weather is at best a few weeks in the year and making any adjustments now will lead to the hot spot getting too hot when the temps drop.

Alternately you can have your stat probe directly under the bulb and this will hold the hot spot steady and then it's just ambient that will move about as temperatures outside change.
