My royal has stopped strike feeding and I can't work out why!

He still eats, but won't strike, he comes toward the rat, smells it and turns away so I leave it in there with him and he eats it within a couple of hours.

Until just before xmas, he had been strike feeding since I got him in November 2011.

Any ideas?

I know I probably shouldn't worry because he is still eating.

thanks for the replys!

oh well, I'll just see how he goes then, he's only missed a few feeds in the three years I've had him so I'm not too worried, just found it a bit odd.

Thanks!

Ours have been funny like that as well..we have 5 royals and all at one time or another have actually struck.
Our oldest strikes ALL the time
2 of them we now just show them and they come out and take when they like (usually no longer than 10 minutes later) our other 1 likes to travel around the viv in "hunt mode" and then come with mouth wide open. Our spider has quite the wobble so we tend to show him and lay it in there for him....so he does not false strike...poor thing!

Our other 3 snakes (boa, carpet, milksnake) all like to strike but as of late the milksnake prefers you to just sit it in there for him.

Up until adulthood Diablo my first royal was my best striker, now he's not struck for months. It's odd they just seem to go on and off sometimes.

My wild caught rarely strikes but every once in a while he hits it straight away without a seconds thought.

one of my bull snakes does this she strikes feed's through the summer but during the winter/breeding season she will only drop feed
it's strange but like you say long as their eating no need to worry
