Well today I traded in my royal... I guess that makes me an outsider lol. I will still lurk in the shadows of the site though

same as my female hog :)

My female Hog is amazing, she is constantly doing laps of her vivs and watching what im up to. I could feed her every couple of days if I wanted and she would take it every time. Think she just burns it off quick with all her exercise.

My male hog hasn't eaten since Jan lol. He's spends day and night hidden behind his background!

Male hogs can be a pain too :) seen tons of people selling on corns etc,As over time they've become bored.Or didn't really want that type of snake to start with. But been sold this "beginner pet"

If you like arboreal snakes, but have never kept snakes before.Don't come home with a corn snake etc.research and buy what you want :)

Tbh as it's been said on here before, i don't think royals should really be recommended as first snakes because although not all of them but a fair amount go through long fasts as we all know and it can be very stressful for a first time owner. Mine had fasted since around November and only started feeding again 2 weeks ago (which i did explain to the new owner) and he was a right pain to get onto rats!!

It's a tough one really. I think even if my hognose had been my first snake I probably would have felt quite intimidated by it. I guess the best thing to do is to try and get some hands on experience with different snakes before actually buying one, and then you can skip anything your not as keen on but may feel forced to buy as a "beginner pet". I guess in a way it makes more sense for a beginner to buy a morph and that way if they do ever want to get rid of it, it's going to be easier to pass on an no love will be lost on the snakes part.

I understand, got all that when i got my first snake.which was a corn lol :P I still have him ofc,but wouldn't get anymore of some things.

I always tell people to get what you want,or something you are intrested in.rather then being talked into whatever from a shop.

Mbk. Thing is as much as I did like my royal as he was my first snake, I never really wanted one. It was all down to the usual thing of man in shop telling me "get a royal or corn for your first snake". Anyway I'm pleased with the swap and the forum has been very useful so I will still use it even though it's gone a bit quiet in the last few months!
