Hi guys,

Just a quick question about shedding and going into blue.

As you know, I've had my lil girl for a week today. She was very sociable when we first got her home but the last 2 says she has not wanted to be held and she's very sleepy. I was wondering if she was about to shed. Her eyes are still bright but her skin is looking less vibrant. She also literally has a bluish hue to her head. I am worried but I'm hoping I am fretting over nothing.

thanks
Natty

When I got mine I tried to leave her for a week without handling, which was hard and I didn't succeed. After a refusal of food I ended up leaving her alone for a solid week without getting her out at all. Then she ate and then I handled after that with no bother.

Hard as it might be, perhaps you need to give her a few days (maybe even a week) on the trot without touching her. I think the general advice is 3 successful feeds before handling - am I right?

Ah ok - we haven't handled her in a couple of days so leaving her to it until she gets used to her surroundings is probably the best bet.

The first two weeks with mine he just wanted to be left alone so I made sure there were plenty of places for him to hide and he had fresh water every day and left him to it. It wasn't until the third week that he took his first feed.

I've been reading that the bluish hue can be down to the iridescent nature of the scales.

Oh that sounds fair, Kelfezond. Gonna try and feed her later in case she's hungry but I'm not holding my breath. :)

Sounds like a shed might be coming up, but she might just be becoming more comfortable with her home and isn't wanting to be dragged out. I occasionally get a new snake that is placid and lovely for the first few days but once it knows it's home it'll start hissing and throwing a tantrum whenever I try to get it out.
