Posted - 12/01/2015 : 12:49:57 Most of the messages on here are asking how to get your Royal to eat but mine won't stop!!! Which is giving me a diffent issue - when do I push the feeding out from every week to every 10 or 14 days?
She is about 15 months old and up to 1,145g last night (and increasing rapidly - 946g on 31 Nov) and regularly polishes off a small rat. Am about to move her up to medium rats so was wondered whether this was the right time to push to every 10 days and monitor the weight.
Thoughts and apologies as I am sure this has been dealt with elsewhere on the forum.
Thanks

Posted - 12/01/2015 : 21:18:52 That is quite big for her age in my experience but they all grow differently and food size plays a big part, at 1145g I'd be feeding small rats still but that's just me I only ever feed medium rats for snakes over 1400g. I'd be feeding every 7 days still but again that's just what I do, I normally changed from every 7 days to every 14 days at around 1400g too. |

Posted - 12/01/2015 : 18:49:20 The size of rat may be to small and thats why she`s eating so often. Ultimately though and this is whats not written very much on forums, there really aren`t any rules, there are only guides, mostly written by novice keepers who have quickly become internet experts. At present my females are all pounding as much as possible as they will be building folicles. So will take food every few days. Where the males have completely stopped. So you have a couple of options, up the food size (i`ve never gone by food size names, just weights) to approx 100g. Or keep going as you are. Enjoy these times because she`ll probably be in her 1st fast this time next year.
