I have just found a small bug swimming around in Tilly`s water. She is in her hide and hasn`t been soaking in the water. I think it is just a bug that has got into her viv or would a mite go into the water by itself?

Had a look today and no more bugs in the water. If she had mites wouldn`t she soak herself in the water to get rid of them?

Thats what i thought, dont really want to disturb her. If i see another one i will take her out and have a look.Thank you both

I'd leave her to settle in if you can't see anything else.

I know. She has her head out of the hide and i cant see anything around her eyes or nostrils.

if it does turn out to be mites, then you will have to keep a very tight eye on them as the little buggers can travel...

No Wolfspirit. She is the other side of the room to my corns. I really haven`t got room to put her anywhere else. I haven`t seen anymore yet, maybe it was a bug that came in from outside as my window is open and i overlook a farm. Should i disturb her and take her out to have a look or just wait and see if anymore turn up.

is she in another room to your other snakes?

Nice sticky BE, Still hard to say. Looked at the water pic and thought no, then looked at the 2nd pic, side of head and thought maybe. Will keep looking to see if their are any more.

Remmy Posted - 05/07/2009 : 16:26:36
I thought it was a bit big for a mite but then again i have never seen a mite, only read about them.
wolfspirit Posted - 05/07/2009 : 16:26:26
if you go into the health section, Piers has done a sticky on mites and there is a photo of one on that post...

might help identify it..

Sorry no photo unless you want a squashed bug photo. It looked black. May have been a beetle thing but i have never seen one before so wouldn`t really know. Dont really want to take her out of her hide and stress her to have a look at her.
Blackecho Posted - 05/07/2009 : 16:23:01
Sounds a bit big for a mite maybe.
wolfspirit Posted - 05/07/2009 : 16:19:08
have you got a photo? what colour was it?

wasnt one of these black beetle things was it?

the ones you see in the summer...
Remmy Posted - 05/07/2009 : 16:05:51
It was quite big, about 4 or 5 mm long and i could see its legs.
Blackecho Posted - 05/07/2009 : 15:59:03
Unlikely. Check around Tilly's eyes, nostrils and heat pits (as well as the rest of the body/scales obviously).

How big is this bug?
