I am picking up the 05 chick eater tomorrow, from what i can gather she is underweight, probably due to always having been fed chicks...
her weight currently sits at a 1000g
obviously i will be trying to get her onto rats asap...
Should i go with seven day feeds with her or 5 day feeds?
in my head i am thinking she will need to be taken steady till her belly gets used to bigger prey and stuff or am i wrong? |

Chicks are also very cheap, so it could have been that too.
yeah maybe, but it would explain her weight...
anyway, she is feeding that is the main thing and i am now upping her to 8 day feeds before going to ten...in the next few feeds... |

Posted - 29/07/2009 : 16:56:01 well i just heard back from Bliss's original owner..
the reason she is so light is because she was a non feeder and would only eat chicks and an occasional mouse..
Bah Humbugs...
to date she has taken four single feeds and her last feed i upped her to 2x50g weaner rats, she is feeding like a trojan for me,
I feed her last now in case any of the others refuse then she has it...
She is for me an aggressive feeder so much so i need longer tongs..lol..
so i suspect her set up was not right, or i just got lucky....lol... |

I would think she wouldn't need food more often than every 10 days at most.
but when? her weight last time she was weighed was at 1050g
which i know by her condition is underweight..
i wont be breeding from her this winter, i think she is going to need twelve months to get back to good condition... |

when do i up her to seven day and then ten day feeds?
she is peeing fine by the way;-)
wonder how much poo comes out of a snake that big? do i need a bucket...? |

Posted - 12/07/2009 : 17:36:32 well i just offered Bliss a nice warmed up 50g rat weaner...
she slammed it harder and faster than Oscar does...
and she ate it faster to...
So i am happy and will feed her again in four days time..
she desperately needs weight on her, she is so thin...
Anyway, just sharing some good news.... |

Could be she was a non feeder so they tried the chick route to get her going and got her addicted (that's how it normally happens)
Give her a week to calm down a bit then try with a rat (without scenting at first) you never know she may just surprise you. If that fails try a scented one a few days after.
that was my plan with her anyway...lol..
she was kept in a shed with five other royals, so i dont have a clue as to why she eats chicks, but i will do my best for her anyway...
Thanks Lewy and everyone else for your input, i appreciate it;-) |
