Posted - 10/07/2009 : 09:46:53 HI guys Looking for some advice if possible. My local pet shop has bought in some royals at my request. However they are not feeding yet. They are going to be tried on live food this weekend. I am not keen on having to feed live if I dont have to. Will they feed on frozen thawed after having taken live? They have said they can order in ones that are gaurenteed feeders but it will cost a bit more. What should I do?

Posted - 10/07/2009 : 15:13:15 No worries. Just realised that read as a sales pitch, wasn't meant to. I bought Boo and Who as total non feeders, just a case of finding what they want to eat, and how.
Best of luck, if you wanna ask any questions all on here would be willing to help. |

Posted - 10/07/2009 : 12:27:39 or alternatively wait 2-3 weeks and one of my 09 females will be for sale, Who has taken two feeds (second was a strike feed too).
Royals need time to get feeding, live, brained, assist etc. Don't worry how they start eating, just if they continue...
I would always suggest getting from somewhere you trust |

Posted - 10/07/2009 : 12:02:35 If they know you ask if you can get involved in feeding a couple of them. I fed my new 09 royal his last two feeds in the shop i brought him from and it gave me confidence in 1. feeding him and 2. know he was eating well and up for a defrost .... he is a dustbin |

Posted - 10/07/2009 : 10:27:08 Thanks guys. I will ask to see the records and other info and if it is not looking good i will get them to order in one that is feeding. They guys are not going to do me coz i used to work there and they know me well so i am sure they would not sell me one that was not right anyway. |

hi Russ
A lot of breeders will often start baby royals off on a live feed just to get them going, maybe one or two feeds and then they switch them...
I would not take a baby if it has not had at least four to five defrost meals with proof they have fed.. |

Posted - 10/07/2009 : 09:56:02 Get one that already had a few feeds and shed once. Its a little like buying anything else really, only buy if your 100% happy. |
