Posted - 31/07/2009 : 11:55:51 So far all help has been brilliant. Thanks to all
The story so far: Gonna contact John from DJ Reptiles this coming week, got my rub sorted, but.....
A guy I work with, his daughter used to keep Dragons. She is offering me her vivarium and all the trimmings for £150.
It has heat mats and a lamp(caged) with thermostats, dead wood stuff, rocks, silk plants, and hides. It also has a lock, hydrometer, and 2 thermometers.
The only concern I have is that it is 4' x 2'.
So questions:
Is it too big for a fully grown Royal?
If not. Is it worth hanging on to until they grow to fit?
Is it worth buying anyway for the 'trimmings'?
I know I sound like a real newb but it has been a very long time since I have done this.
Thanks

Hadn't noticed the price of the stat, you can actually get a PP for less than that, that's very expensive!

I have ordered 2 more plants, another hide, and a digital dual thermometer/hydrometer. Cancelled the bark gonna use kitchen roll initially I think.
you kow if your going for a viv, rather than fork out on a mat and stat why dont you go the dimmer or pulse route...its a little more expensive but better for grown up royals.. |

Posted - 31/07/2009 : 16:30:40 It doesn't sound bad, I'd probably buy a few more plants and another hide, just to really make it nice and cramped. |

Posted - 31/07/2009 : 15:30:14 Thanks for the advice evryone. Given the length of time that it will be before I am ready for a 3' viv' I think I'll go with the Swell Reptiles set up. Unless anyone thinks it would be a bad idea. |

Posted - 31/07/2009 : 15:20:34 I would say 4*2 is ok for an adult female. The price of vivs vary quite a bit, a lot depends on the quality. You can get a 3ft for £60 upwards. It just depends what you want it too look like. I could have got one near me for £60 but it had screw caps all over it which i didn`t want. Really it is a matter off preference. |

Exo Terra Water Dish (Medium)£4.49 Lucky Reptile Coconut Bark Chips £3.79 Exo Terra Croton (Small) £2.49 Habistat Mat Stat 100w £29.99 Exo Terra Reptile Cave (Small) £3.59 Zoo Med Congo Ivy (Small) £2.39 Sub Total: £116.42 Points Earnt: 348pts Delivery: Free TOTAL: £116.42 (inc VAT)
Is this a better start for a juvenile Royal?
Or should I go straight for a 3' and stick with the RUB?
Thanks Paul
check out ebay, you might find some good deals on new vivs..stats and the rest...
that big viv is ideal for an adult female as they can get to four or five foot... |

You can buy a 3x2 viv for ~£60, the rest isn't worth £90 in my opinion so I'd say £150 is steep.
i think i need to move, i cant even get a 2ft viv for that price , im robbed on rats, on mice, on vivs bet your heat mats stats lights and plants are cheaper to
vivs in my local rep 2ft-£95 3ft-£115 4ft-£130 and there full wood with 2 to 4 air vents no lock
Ebay is your friend, quick look found this:
