i have had my baby royal python for 1 day
she has settled in really well, and when i got back from college today, she had lifted herself up the glass door and was looking out with expectant expressions 
she is due a feed on thursday so i decided to weigh her as she was awake and really active
at 9 weeks old, she is 13" long and is 119g
does this weight seem ok to everyone. she is my little baby, dont want her to be underweight or visa versa. |

the red bulb needs a stat and if you dont have one..a bulb guard is a must.. |

no the red bulb is not on a thermostat.
i was planning to have the heat mat reaching 90oF, and the red bulb being used for a couple of hours at night, just for i suppose a decorative purpose, so i can see the snake. Thats what we did with our last snake.
i turned the thermostat for the heat mat up once, and it wouldnt raise up
i guessing there something wrong with heat mat maybe???

A heat mat should easily get to 90f try turning the thermostat up. Also is the red bulb on a thermostat as well as it needs to be, but in reality you should not need the bulb. |

Thanks a lot.
Yea that the only time im gonna hold her till next week. I felt she needed a weighing though before her first feed with me because i am keeping a log book.
she seems happy, she always sitting in the cool end of the viv, hiding behind a hanging plant. She not often in the hot end.
hot end is at 87oF, cold end 80oF.
i got a thermostat on the heat mat and its set to 90oF, but the heatmat wont get past 81oF, despite it covering 1/3-1/2 of the vivarium floor. I decided then to put a 25 watt red heat bulb in just to give the temp a boost which gets it to about 87oF-88oF. A 40 watt bulb however makes the temperature go to 105oF!!!
She seems happy with the temperatures she has got, if she was too cold she would be lounging in the hot end, but she is always in the cool end because she likes her plant

Sounds fine
I really wouldn't handle a Royal until they're feeding well with you though. |
