I'm planning Roy's larger vivarium, just wondering which heat source people prefer. Also can you get bayonet infra red bulbs? My fitting is for a bayonet. Thank you.

I use IR and the temp's stable. Feather's on a mat at the moment because she's still wee, but I'm undecided whether to stick with what I know (IR) when she goes into a viv or give ceramic a shot.

Ok thanks for the comments. I will try IR for now and see how it goes.

i have recently change to ceramic from i/r and more stable temps and he is a little more active, only a little though.lol

I use IRs never touch my stats. temps flux a bit but only natural with room temp changing and when viv doors are opened. they never fall outside ideal temps.

My IR`s stay constant, never have to touch them
wolfspirit Posted - 01/10/2009 : 20:51:33
i must admit i prefer ceramics over IR think the heat is more stable, but thats just my experience.

I like IR's for the light and thats it...

Never touch mine.

I have just set up a stack with IR's on a dimmer and am not overly pleased TBH.

I love the way they look with the red light...but im not happy with the temps. Seem to have to adjust them evey few days which I never have to do with my ceramics.

I prefer infra reds, as BE said they give enough light for you to see in the viv

You can get the fittings from Dave Reptiles Ink on here, they are much cheaper and he sells the cable and guards as well

OK thanks, can I get a safe ES light fitting for a wood viv from a rep shop as I've only seen clamp lamp style fittings before, or 60/100w rated screw in types? Sorry to sound like an idiot, I'm used to diurnal herps who take bayonet bulbs!!
matty18714 Posted - 01/10/2009 : 16:16:53
I think you can get bayonet IR's, but most are ES. I prefer ceramics personaly, I would rather not have the light.
Blackecho Posted - 01/10/2009 : 16:08:18
I think both the IR Heat Bulbs and Ceramics tend to be Screw fitting. I prefer the IR Bulbs myself, enough light for you to see, not enough to disturb the snake.
