Posted - 25/01/2010 : 18:49:16 ok its not for a royal but its based on same principle
just put a moss box in the pine snakes vivarium, just got him today (pictures are on reptilian) and he is going through shed (in the blue eye stage).
how long can i keep it in there without changing it/moistening it up again? |

Posted - 25/01/2010 : 20:48:25 I always use a moist box as soon as I notice their eyes going blue, I leave it in there until they have completed their shed as the higher humidity help the process. I don't use moss I use a damp flannel which I moisten daily with a warm water spray and if soiled I clean and replace with another moist flannel, so far it works as they spend a lot of time in there and usually shed without a problem, once completely shed I remove and thoroughly clean for the next time. As for your new pine snake not shifting from his hole that's normal :) they are just getting used to their new surroundings until they feel it's safe to venture out :) just be patient and wait :) |

Posted - 25/01/2010 : 20:23:20 cool i have never really used a moss box the royal gets one fine without one. The only reason why I am using one this time is because i have only just brought the pine snake and the shop said this is what they put in when he had shed in the past at the shop, so i decided to give him what he is used to. although since he arrived at 3pm he hasnt shifted from his hide |

Posted - 25/01/2010 : 20:14:18 Its your choice really, I put one in when I notice them go blue, if I miss it, they miss their moss hide, most of them cope |

Posted - 25/01/2010 : 19:30:06 I have mine in the cool end if I put them in and they tend to need to be re-sprayed every couple of days. |

Posted - 25/01/2010 : 19:24:23 ok i guess it will just be common sense to know when the moss is too dry, thanks a lot |

Posted - 25/01/2010 : 19:22:15 In the middle is probably the best place. As for how long it will remain moist, really hard to say. |

Posted - 25/01/2010 : 19:02:01 Depends on where it is. Will dry out quicker in the warm end than in the cool end. |
