Been reading Kylashnikov post on where to place thermostat prob,if infra red it is said put on top of the substrate,

If its a heat mat do you put theremostat prob on top of the substrate like the infra red bulb or direct on to the heat mat.

Using a heatmat I would advise placing the thermostat probe on top of the heat mat and the digital thermometer on top of substrate and adjust stat (looking at temp on top of substrate) until it reaches desired temp.

It's allways best to put any probe "where your snake is likely to be" because thats where you want to measure temp/himidity.

same for me too, i use digi thermometers and rubber band the therm probe and the stat probe together. i also check them with a greenhouse thermometer every now and again for accuracy

in my eyes the probe for the thermostat goes on the substrate in the hottest spot. but always callabrate it with a digital thermometer.
