I read up alot about these snakes and alot of places say that its best to feed them outside there viv, but then say after feeding they shouldn't be handled, so what do you do after you feed them outside the viv? Thanks for all your replies

Posted - 13/03/2010 : 13:25:31 There is no reason to feed your snake outside of the viv except for the risk of it eating some substrate too. As BE said, if you're using paper or aspen it's not really a problem anyway.
Some people think that a snake is less likely to bite you if it's never fed in its viv but this is a myth. It's also only really practical with smaller snakes anyway, can you imagine trying to persuade an eight foot boa in feeding mode to go back into her house? |

Posted - 13/03/2010 : 08:12:44 As above, if you feed outside of the viv, give the snake a few minutes to finish swallowing and get out of 'feeding mode', or you may be next on the menu and then just handle as little as possible.
Personally, I feed all mine in their vivs to avoid the trouble. If you're using newspaper or Aspen/Aubiose as substrate you should be fine. If you're using Orchid bark I probably wouldn't feed in the viv. |
