Hi everyone!
Since I got Reg (my Royal) he's been feeding on rats weekly with no dramas unless shedding. He was on pup's when I bought him and I have since moved him onto weaners. He now weighs in at 355g and looks really healthy.
A guy at a local reptile shop keeps saying I should try feeding him gerbils as they're more likely to be the snakes natural food in the wild. Is this a valid idea or nonsence? Does anyone here feed their royal anything other than rats/mice? The gerbils he had in the freezer were a good size, about the same as a large rat weaner.
Any opinions would be very welcome.

I can vouch for gerbils being VERY addictive and VERY expensive when your snake reaches a fair size. Don't do it!

Aye the guy in the shop probably makes more money from gerbils haha

Cheers for the reply. Keep him on rats then?

Gerbils can be addicitve, so when your Royal outgrows them you may struggle to get them back onto rats and end up having to feed multiple Gerbils. Very expensive!
