I cant seem to get the temp in my viv right it was fine when we had the heatwave but now its got colder it doesnt seem to get above 26 degrees in the hot end. i have a heat lamp and a heat mat but it still doesnt go up and when i turn the heat lamp off at night when i wake up in the morning it drops down to 23 degrees any suggestions on what i can do.

i use a red 60w bulb on a stat and i have my tank in my room to and the light is not bright enough to disturb sleep. with a stat they generaly dnt use the full 60w or 100w( depends on what bulb u use) cause the tank does not need it to keep at the right temp.

i leave it on 24/7 aswell.

Not particularly I don't think, but I don't know how sensitive you are to light.

Another alternative then would be a ceramic bulb (they emit no light at all), but you would need ceramic fittings rather than plastic as they can get seriously hot.

You can leave them on 24/7, not sure you can with the Sun Glo ones.

Cheers.

They are conventional sized ES (Screw fitting) bulbs.

Forgive my electrical ignorance, but are these simply bulbs that you plug into conventional light fitting, or do they require a special socket?

(I'm very practical, but simply unused to technicalities ...)

Breezy Breslin Posted - 09/08/2010 : 19:35:50

Blackecho Posted - 09/08/2010 : 18:17:47
Ditch the heatmat and use an IR heat bulb on a stat.
