Having been somewhat bitten by the bug, and having Patsy stolen by the missus on a regular basis I'm pondering getting a hatchling in order that I might occasionally get to 'play' with my own snake...
So I've got a couple more silly newbie questions....
Obviously every snake is different, but assuming that I get a very new hatchling and he/she is an average feeder, what sort of growth rate would be expected? The reason for asking is that housing another three foot viv would be pretty awkward in the current flat, but if the hatchling would be OK in a small to medium RUB for quite some time before moving to a larger house such as the VX36 that Patsy lives in that wouldn't be so much of an issue. If, on the other hand it ended up needing a good sized home within a year, the idea would be a non-starter.
Presuming the setup is heatmat under RUB, I guess a stat would still be required. From other posts I gather the usual practice is to put the stat sensor directly on the mat, and the independant thermometer sensor on the substrate in the RUB. The question is where to measure the temp, and if it should be the full 90-ish F that a full sized viv would have as the hotspot, or not quite that high as I would assume a gradient in a small rub would be next to impossible?
What would be your recommendations?

When I got Tig, when he was curled up, he could quite comfortably fit in the palm of my hand. A week later it was getting harder for him to stay on! I bought him at four weeks old last July and he's now ready for his viv, although he could go into a bigger rub if I was going to keep him in one his whole life. But he's going into a three foot viv instead 'cause I like vivs much better : ) He's growing quite fast and in the last few months has been going through a real growth spurt. So, as far as he goes it's taken a good few months less than a year for him to be big enough for his viv.
But that's just Tig.
Could it not be possable to stack two vivs? So no new space would be needed. Would that help? |

Well u can keep royals in a rub all there life, it just depends on what u like. I like vivs, but I now a few people on here keep adult royals in I think 33 litre rubs |

Hmmm.... I think common sense might have to prevail in that case. I can't see my missus wanting snakey to live in a plastic box when he/she reaches the sort of size you could put them in a three foot viv. No way we could squeeze another one in the living room, there's already Pasty plus two four foot vivs with corns... lol |

my bullet i got at about 100 grams, about 9 months later and weighs about 350 grams, and i reckon will be going into his 3ft sometimes this year, so i would say that on an average feed and average growth a royal if you plan to put in a 3ft would prob go in at 12-18 months depending on rub sizes |
