Hi All
Just a quick question really. Handled kiba for a few mins tonight and every so often I felt a rough scale or something on his belly. When I tried to run him through my fingers front to back I couldn't find it though, so I was wondering if it's just a scale that I rubbed the wrong way or something? Is that possible? Or is it something I should be worrying about?

no, oil is fine on snakes, as it is a natural product to a certain degree, i had to use it when bow got mites, and it worked
and no, you dont need to oil him or bath him as there is nothing wrong |

There is no need to oil them down they are not wrestlers. You can use oil to kill mites but other than that water does ther job for any other skin related ailments. |

You can give them a bath with olive oil in the water as a supplementary remedy for mites (the oil gums the mites up and kills them.) Not that I've ever tried it - hope I never ever encounter mites! |

Why? Nothing is wrong, the ventral scales are doing exactly what they should. |

They use their ventral (belly) scales for grip and movement, they can and do lift them a bit for grip. You can feel it snag your skin every now and again. Its perfectly fine and normal and fascinating how they use them. |

Yes, belly scales can tilt slightly if you run your hand up the snake, and feel 'loose.' Don't think there's anything to worry about. |
