I'm going to try to feed Dio on Sunday if he's not shedding and having never tried to feed a snake before are there any good tips you could give me to get him to take it? Whats the best way of heating it up?

My boyfriend tried last Friday but he didn't take it. He's new to royals too so wasn't quite sure what to do. His old garter snake used to get fed live goldfish from the local pet shop so he's not used to the frozen food.

Surprise surprise just got back to find Dio digesting his mouse curled up in the hamster logs. I can't wait for him to get to big to go in them so we may actually get to see him more lol.

The feed was a success. The boyfriend woke up to find the mouse gone and a content Dio. Is it bad i'm more excited about seeing Dio than the boyfriend later

I don't think he did wave it infront of him so it should be ok. The OH gone to bed now so should get a text in the morning to say if he's had it or not. He hasn't been handled all week so he should be nice and settled by now.

He could have waited but purely because he didn't Dio will refuse the mouse. I find waving the food infront of Duke the best way to make him refuse it. I have to put the rat in his metal feeding dish, turn off the lights and TV and then sit as far away as possible. Usually takes about 20-30 minutes before Duke appears but if you watch carefully about a minute after that rat goes in his nose is at the entrance of the hide. Dio will know for sure its there and is probably waiting for the coast to be clear.

I've told the boyfriend to wave it infront of him to get him to notice it. Still annoyed he couldn't wait until tomorrow when i'm there but there will be plenty more feed in the future.

Oops sorry have just been reading again through this thread and see you already had idea re rat bedding (I have times like this - the light's on but there's nobody there ...)

Yes, good luck with the feeding - hope he mouses his mouse!
Dio Posted - 02/04/2011 : 23:16:14
He hasn't even noticed it's in there yet.
Lotabob Posted - 02/04/2011 : 22:50:55
Fingers crossed for you.
Dio Posted - 02/04/2011 : 22:45:23
Dio's mouse has been put in his viv so now it's just wait and see if he eats it.
Dio Posted - 02/04/2011 : 12:09:54
Well it looks like i may not have to worry about feeding Dio on sunday as the boyfriend seems to have decided to feed him today while i'm still away at my parents. Trying to get him to wait till tomorrow so i can be there.

That's what i was hoping to do. It's quite handy having such a ready supply of rat smell. Shame it won't be as smelly as when there were 2 of them but it should be enough.

If anyone in the southampton area wants any used rat bedding to sent with their more than welcome to it.
