My 9l rub has arrived this morning, I have no idea how I am going to make holes in the thing, it is quite thick plastic.. but where and how many do i need??
also, the stat probe does that go inside the rub or under the rub on top of the heat mat... thanks...

When I put holes in Tig's tupperware box for his steams I used a metal knitting neddle heated up through a tealight flame. It worked a treat and as BATS said it leaves the edges nice and smooth too : )
... Just don't go touching the needle while it's still hot 0_0 It hurts! |

I clipper lighter has done the job nicely although did leave rough bits so have had to sand it, which has scratched the plastic.... for a 1st attempt not too bad i suppose.. |

soldering iron does the job nicely. You could be waiting for a loooooong time for a ceramic hob to heat up your screwdriver. |

Ah. Well, in that case, won't the screwdriver hot up on an electric cooker ring? Or if you're fortunate enough to have an open fire, put it in the fire and wipe it well before doing the holes? Good luck. |

I like that idea, but as i live in the back a^&e of beyond we do not have any gas and i figure it may take some time using a match lol |

I put a large screwdriver into a gas fire or on a gas ring till very hot, and melt holes - the melting ensures the edges are smooth. |

What's a drill lol...I think this may be a job for hubby :-) thanks for the help, i will pop half a dozen or so in it and see how it goes with temps and humidity, i can always add more i suppose. Aaahh so the stat probe goes inside... super.. |

Also make sure you take the burrs (little plastic bits) off when you have drilled the holes as they can be sharp, also youcan put the holes anywhere but most prefer the lid which also makes it easier to take off and add a few more holes if needed after you have it all set up. |

Use a drill to make the holes, then scrape a sharp knife across both sides to remove all of the swarf / offcuts. I have no idea how many you need, but from what I have seen, around 3 to 4 rows of holes, spaced just under 1cm apart seems to be the norm (ish) |

A 6-8mm drill bit will do the holes quite easily, as for the stat cable about a 10mm drill bit (metal) and place the sensor inside the rub on the floor of the hot side. |
