I get a natural 2-4 degrees centigrade drop in ambient temperature on a night, its very warm through the day so I leave the windows open at the moment so it does the job perfectly.

I don't and wouldn't bother dropping temps. Even when breeding some breeders have found that the lowering of temps plus the stress of breeding can cause R.I's

I have the auto time zone stats to drop temps 9pm to 9am

I completely agree - I keep all mine at a steady temp and they seem to do fine. The ambient temp drops naturally anyways so they have an (almost) natural cycle throughout the year.

I never lower them either, I will lower the temps when I am trying to breed my snakes I think alot of people alter the temps to better represent day and night cycles to help snakes get in the mood for mating season but as far as having to goes I don't think it will effect them one way or the other

Your temps sound fine. I don't personally lower night time temps, as ambient temps are generally lower at night anyway, though the stat will correct that in the warm end. Some people prefer to lower night time temps though - it's a case of personal preference, but this is what seems to work for me.
